Civil Eats is a non-profit organization and daily news source for critical thought about the American food system. They publish stories that shift the conversation around sustainable agriculture in an effort to build economically and socially just communities.o extend research-based knowledge and information on home horticulture, pest management, and sustainable landscape practices

La Via Campesina is an international movement that brings together millions of peasants, small and medium size farmers, landless people, rural women and youth, indigenous people, migrants and agricultural workers from around the world. Built on a strong sense of unity, solidarity between these groups, it defends peasant agriculture for food sovereignty as a way to promote social justice and dignity and strongly opposes corporate driven agriculture that destroys social relations and nature. They have organizations in 81 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.

WhyHunger is a global non-profit, that provides critical resources to support grassroots movements and fuel community solutions rooted in social, environmental, racial and economic justice. For over 40 years, they have been working to end hunger and advance the human right to nutritious food in the U.S. and around the world.

Power Dynamics of the Food System

A workshop to understand how the Food System works and how much influence actors have on policymakers that make laws & regulations that shape the system. In addition, what actions we can take to exercise and increase our influence on policymakers towards achieving Food Justice. (bilingual)

 

Racism in the Food System

We discuss the history of the U.S. Food System, recognizing racism as one of its core roots. Understanding this history helps contextualize how present issues in the areas of economics, food access and public health are consequences of these roots. (bilingual)

 

Food as Medicine: Plant-based Eating

Workshop objectives:
1.Learn about the health and environmental impact of animal products.

2. Encourage community empowerment toward WELLNESS through INCREASED use of minimally processed and unprocessed plant food.
